Last Tuesday I went on a fly-fishing outing on Crooked Creek in Arkansas with my friend Kary Kingsland. Kary was a great guide. We landed a bunch of fish—mostly smallmouth bass, with a potpourri of other species thrown in. Largemouth, bluegill, green sunfish, longear sunfish, goggle-eye (or rock bass) were in the mix.
We were on the water for 7 hours in 90+ degree heat, but the forecast had called for rain so we were very happy. We used Kary's hand-made flies exclusively. He knows how to tie flies and he knows how to fish them. I think he needs to market the custom fly that I caught all 40 of my fish on that day. Kary's catch was about the same, so we caught a whole bunch of fish ... and released them all.

Kary in action. What a technique.
Two of our smallies. A 14 incher (top) and a 15 incher.
Crooked Creek, we shall return.
