Steve Humann Memorial
I recently sent out the following to those who knew and loved Steve Humann:
When Steve Humann passed away, an inestimable number of people whose lives had been touched by him, began to mourn. We who counted him a friend continue to grieve today. This world has lost a man who was an inspiration even to people he never met.
But it is a comfort to know that Steve is in heaven today, no longer facing the limitations that he overcame every day for the last three decades. When I wrote Steve’s story for publication, I also wrote about the role that Joyce’s faith played in the man Steve became.
Joyce was advised to put him in a nursing home. She wouldn’t, and for the next 30 years, she remained devoted to the man she loved. Joyce has been an inspiration too.
Now Joyce’s life has changed. We need to remember to continue holding her up in prayer as she adjusts to life without Steve.
I just learned that something else has changed for Joyce. Now that Steve is gone, she will no longer receive payments from Steve’s settlement. I know. It doesn’t seem fair.
It also doesn’t seem fair that, because of that, and because Joyce has devoted the last 30 years to caring for Steve, she now finds herself in a very uncertain financial situation. None of us want to see her lose her home, but that is a real possibility.
A memorial fund has been set up in Steve’s name to help Joyce through this uncertain future. Joyce would never ask this for herself. But she deserves it. Can I ask you to consider joining Peggy and me in honoring Steve by giving to this. In that way we honor him and come alongside Joyce in her time of need.
Let’s bless this devoted woman of God.
