Zebra Swallowtail

First zebra swallowtail of the year. These delicate beauties are among my favorites, and not as commonly seen as many other swallowtail varieties. Found drinking at the edge of the Little Sac River.

Eiffel Tower 123 Today

On this day in 1889, the Eiffel Tower was opened in a dedication ceremony in Paris. Below are a few shots I took when I was there in 2005.

Offbeat Art in Springfield

This giant cleaver resides in the top of a tree in the front yard of a Springfield, Missouri, artist.

Munching on Walnuts

This squirrel was dining on multiple walnuts yesterday, just off the trail, oblivious to all passers-by.

Spotted Near the Water's Edge Today

This Midland Water Snake was basking in the sun, perhaps digesting, just off the trail. This is a subspecies of the Northern Water Snake, Nerodia sipedon, which is found in the southern third of Missouri.

My Great-Grandmother, Jennie Fishbaugh

A relative sent me this photo tonight. It is of my great-grandmother, Jennie Fishbaugh Horn. She was married to the only great-grandfather I remember (and that, slightly), John Henry Franklin Horn. I love getting these "new" old photos ... glimpses into the past.

The Volleyball Net Incident

So tonight was our regular basketball night. We have to quit at six because a volleyball league comes in. So they set up the volleyball net while we're still playing basketball. While playing, I went running after a ball that was about to go out of bounds at half court ... and ran full tilt into the volleyball net—a perfect clothesline—knocking myself flat on my back. My wonderful Christian friends all had the same loving message of concern for me: "Wow. Too bad we don't have that on video."
